Introduction
I have been actively involved with the Kamloops Film Society since 2019, a pivotal year when the organization took over the historic Paramount Theatre located in the heart of Downtown Kamloops. My role has primarily focused on the digital presence of the society, where I have designed and developed three distinct iterations of the website. Each version has been crafted with careful consideration and attention to detail, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the society. The current version of the website has been specifically built with a user-friendly interface, prioritizing the ease of use for the KFS staff. This design allows them to efficiently manage and update the site with minimal effort, particularly when it comes to adding new events and showtimes, thereby streamlining their workflow and enhancing the overall user experience for visitors.
Technical Details
The site is a custom WordPress theme I made from scratch. It employs the Advanced Custom Fields Pro and Events Calendar Pro plugins. In the backend, when staff go to add a showtime, rather than finding all the details about the film such as the poster art, trailer on YouTube, actor and director names, etc., they simply enter the ID of the film from the excellent TMDB (The movie database). Details of the film are then loaded via API dynamically.
