I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve just wrapped up coding a brand-new website for Vancouver’s own Taylor Valley Construction! This project was a true collaboration, and I had the pleasure of teaming up with the talented designer Kristin Church, who spearheaded the design scheme, content, and copywriting for the site. My role? Bringing her vision to life with clean, responsive code that works seamlessly across devices.
For this build, I crafted a custom WordPress theme built on top of the Understrap framework—a solid foundation that blends Bootstrap’s flexibility with WordPress’s power. The goal was to create a site that’s not just beautiful but also easy for the Taylor Valley team to manage. That’s where Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) came in. By integrating ACF on the backend, I ensured the staff can update content effortlessly without worrying about breaking the site’s sleek styling.
One feature I’m particularly proud of is the "Join Our Team" page. Using WordPress custom post types, I set up a system that lets Taylor Valley add job postings with ease—perfect for keeping their career opportunities fresh and up-to-date without any hassle.
Speed and performance were top priorities, and I’m happy to report the site scores brilliantly on Google PageSpeed Insights (see video below). How’d we get there? Next-gen WebP images and optimized code for lightning-fast load times, meticulous optimization, and a boost from WP Rocket to keep everything running smoothly. Plus, accessibility was baked into the process, earning the site high marks for inclusivity—because a great website should work for everyone.
This project was a fantastic blend of design and tech, and I’m stoked with how it turned out. Taylor Valley Construction now has a digital presence that reflects their quality and professionalism, and I can’t wait to see how it serves them moving forward. Big thanks to Kristin for her stellar work—collabs like this are what make web development so rewarding!
